Almonds for Low Carb Crunch

One of the problems with low carb diets for me is the lack of crunchy snack foods.  Before converting to a lower carb diet, I would routinely snack on low fat tortilla chips or popcorn or even gummies for a sweet treat.  None of those things are low carb and I missed having a crunchy snack.

Then I discovered Almonds.  Specifically the 100 calorie packages so that it’s portion controlled since nuts are very easy to overeat.  And I always look for the Emerald brand because they are the easiest to open.  If I’m on a long drive and need a snack (due to boredom or sleepiness), I don’t want to be struggling to get a bag open.  I’ve been there, done that and it is very aggravating.  The Emerald brand has an easy to open package and comes in assorted flavors such as Natural, Smoked, Cocoa, Vanilla, &  Cinnamon Roast.
They really are a nice treat and a healthy snack in so many ways.  According to the Mayo Clinic “Walnuts, almonds and other tree nuts can improve blood cholesterol. Rich in mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids, walnuts also help keep blood vessels healthy” and “may reduce your risk of heart disease”. I didn’t always like the taste of almonds  but learned to enjoy them.  And the portability makes them easy to carry in a purse, briefcase or glove compartment. For me, they are the easiest nuts to eat without overeating especially with the individual packages.
