Protein Bars

I have been known to say that I never met a chemical I didn’t like.  I’m kidding, of course, but I am not opposed to packaged mixes, frozen foods, Splenda, and other chemically laden products.  I realize we would all be better off eating only whole foods and nothing artificial.  No doubt about it.  And it’s definitely a worthwhile goal.  But for me, not an entirely practical one.  I spend a great deal of time in and out of the car and I don’t always want to spend the time or money to sit down and eat a meal and I’ve found that a protein bar can be very filling.  I look for bars with the most protein and least amount of carbs and ideally the protein number will be much higher.  Many high protein bars have a lot of carbs and many of the bars advertised as low carb have a lot of sugar alcohols which I just cannot handle.  Some people can and for those folks, there are hundreds of choices.  Through a lot of trial and error, I have concluded that I can handle a bar with no more than 5 grams of sugar alcohols.  One brand that I tend to go with a lot is Pure Protein in the chocolate flavor which I find at Target.  It also happens to be Gluten Free for those who need that.  The package recommends eating with a full glass of water and I think that’s good advice.
